‘Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita’ is a Hindu scripture written in Bangla. Mahendranath Gupta (1854-1932) wrote this book in five volumes ,he used the pseudonym “Srim”.
Ramakrishna Paramahamsa was a religious teacher of Hindus of 19th century and his conversations and activities have been recorded in this book. The five volumes of Kathamrita were published in 1902, 1904, 1908, 1910 and 1932 respectively and it is considered as a classical book of Bengali literature. Hindus give dignity to this book as a holy book.
Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita’s author Mohendranath Gupta (who wrote this book under the pseudonym “Srim”) was a professor of Ripon College in Kolkata. He also taught at multiple schools in Kolkata. He came in close with Ramakrishna Paramahamsa in 1882. Being attracted to Ramakrishna’s personality, Mahendranath started to stenographer record his conversation and activities in his own diary. This record later takes shape of the book called- Ramakrishna Kathamrita.
